Terms of use
The short version: Gooseberry is a free information tool, not advice. Its fund data comes from the issuers and can be wrong, so check anything that matters against your own statements and Form 1099-DIV. It comes with no warranty, and the free sync service can change.

Who these terms are with
These terms cover the Gooseberry apps for iPhone and Android, the web app at app.getgooseberry.app, the optional sync and sign-in service, and this website (together, “Gooseberry”). Gooseberry is made and operated by BlueFort Labs LLC (“we”, “us”). By using Gooseberry you agree to these terms and to the privacy policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use it.
Information only, not advice
Gooseberry shows payouts, dates, return-of-capital figures, cost-basis estimates and projections to help you keep track of your own investments. None of it is investment, tax, legal or accounting advice, or a recommendation to buy, sell or hold any security. Estimates and projections are not promises. Your broker’s records and your Form 1099-DIV are the official figures for your taxes; ask a qualified professional before acting on anything you see here.
Where the data comes from
Fund data comes from the fund issuers’ public disclosures: distribution tables, Section 19(a) notices, Form 8937 and year-end tax statements, prices and NAV. It may be late, incomplete or wrong; issuers revise their figures, and estimates can differ a lot from the final numbers. We correct errors when we find them but can’t guarantee accuracy. Gooseberry isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by any fund issuer, and fund names and tickers belong to their owners.
Your data
What you enter stays on your devices unless you turn on sync, which stores it end-to-end encrypted. You’re responsible for what you enter and for keeping your own records. Keep your sync code and password safe: we can’t read, reset or recover them, so if you lose every device along with the code or password, your synced data can’t be recovered.
The sync service
Sync and sign-in are free and optional. We may change, limit or stop them. If we plan to stop them, we’ll say so in the apps or on this site ahead of time when we reasonably can, and the holdings on your devices won’t be affected. Synced data, and the logins that unlock it, that no device has used for 18 months is deleted automatically. Don’t misuse the service: don’t try to break, overload or get around its security or limits, access data that isn’t yours, or store anything other than your Gooseberry data. We may remove data or block access that breaks these rules.
No warranty
Gooseberry is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows. We don’t promise that it will always be available, error-free or secure.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any lost profits, investment losses, taxes, penalties or interest, arising from or related to your use of Gooseberry or its data, even if we were told they were possible. Our total liability for any claim about Gooseberry is limited to US$50. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
App stores
If you download a Gooseberry app from Apple’s App Store, Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies; Google Play’s terms apply to downloads from Google Play. Apple and Google aren’t responsible for Gooseberry or its support.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we do, we’ll change the date above, and for significant changes we’ll also say so in the apps or on this site. Using Gooseberry after a change means you accept the new terms.
